Media Guidelines – 2023-24

PRACTICE

Flames practice times vary from 10:00am to 12:00pm MT depending on the day. Game day skates will consistently happen at 10:30am MT although they may be optional. The Flames PR staff will make every effort to inform media on practice times, changes and availability through www.flamesmedia.ca and @NHLFlamesPR on Twitter.

Media are to enter for practices through the Lot D Media Entrance and through the Zamboni tunnel to the lower bowl section behind the team benches to view practice.

Following practice, Head Coach and requested players will be made available in the Ed Whalen Media Lounge in a podium Q&A format. Please put your requests in for coach and player interviews to the PR Staff during or immediately following practice or game day skate.

Individual interviews (one-on-one) requests will only be granted in special circumstances and on advance notice.

CREDENTIAL REQUESTS

Please request credentials 24 hours in advance of the game in which you have been assigned to cover – requests should be submitted via email to Kaelyn Nelson ([email protected]). In the case of full-time credential media, please inform us, when possible, if you are not attending a particular game.

GAME DAY & POST GAME

On request, players will be made available for a 30-minute period up to 90 minutes prior to the game time. Preferably, media interviews should be conducted following the morning skate.

Requests for player/coaches for broadcast pre-tape interviews must be made to the PR team before 11:00am on a game day. In case of in game or “quick hit” requests, please provide the request with at least two minutes left in the period with a back-up option.

Post game interview with coach will be conducted in a press conference Q&A format in the Ed Whalen Media Lounge following the game. Typically, Head Coach will go first followed by two or three requested players in the Flames locker room once a member of the Flames PR Staff has allowed media to enter. Subject to change.

PHOTO/TV Cameras/Online Streaming

Please follow credential guidelines outlined above. Free-lance photographers will only be granted credentials when on assignment for a media outlet.

Photographers and camera’s are permitted to shoot Flames practices and morning skates from the stands behind the team benches only.

Photographers will be granted one location for the first period. Other period shooting locations will be coordinated during the game. Please respect sight lines of spectators at all times.

Any live news shots utilizing the playing surface as a backdrop must conclude 30 minutes before television broadcast begins.

As per NHL policy, non-rightsholders are not permitted to record highlights during games. Highlights will be available through Telus Operations Center (800) 332-1083.

Any streaming of footage in violation of the NHL’s Broadcasting Guidelines and Media Access Policy is expressly prohibited.
